SA²GE - Phase 3: SMART AND LIGHTWEIGHT WING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The sub-project aims to demonstrate, on a shared test bed, the concept of a multifunctional flight controls wing and its major components for business aircraft. The recent introduction of fly-by-wire (FBW) technology on these aircraft opens a new way to configure and manage control surfaces on the wing in order to reduce aerodynamic loads, much like a bird's feather. Indirectly, the energy efficiency and weight of the aircraft will benefit.
A new architecture of the control surfaces and its control system will be developed to exploit the full aerodynamic potential of a multifunctional flight controls wing. The actuation mechanisms of the control surfaces and their structural integration will also be developed as well as an active mini control stick for pilots.
